It is with saddened hearts and immeasurable grief that we announce the death of our Thelma “Nene” Hubiera Mendoza Collins on March 28, 2022 at 9:48 P.M. at the age of 73. She was a caring, loving, and devoted wife, sister, aunt, nurse, and mentor.
Thelma was born on September 11, 1948 in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines to Vevencio and Alberta Mendoza. She graduated from San Pedro School of Nursing in 1970 and practiced for over fifty years. She moved to the United States in 1975 to advance her nursing career. While there, she married David William Collins on September 19, 1980.
She has always been the rock of our family. She took care of her husband, raised and provided for siblings, and provided for all her nieces’ and nephews’ education. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, music, travelling, and knitting. She is best known for her sage wisdom, her unceasing work ethic, and her unconditional love for her family. She will be sorely missed and forever in our thoughts and hearts.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vevencio Mendoza; mother, Alberta Mendoza; brother-in-law, Atty. Tomas Falconitin.
She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, David William Collins; siblings, Morito “Toto” Mendoza, Daisy “Inday” Mendoza Torio, Lolita “Odet” Mendoza Lim, Genedina “Inik” Mendoza Falconitin, Judith “Murray” Mendoza, Adriano “Nonoy” Mendoza, Benny “Nono” Mendoza, and Monica “Bing” Mendoza; brother-in-law, Vicente “Inting” Lim Jr.; sisters-in-law, Alita “Aling” Cabillo Mendoza, and Shelia “Ilay” Salillas Mendoza; along with her cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 4 – 7 P.M. in the chapel of Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Fred Lehrer, Rev. Danny Georges and Rev. John Greene.
