Rev. James T. Garrett, "JT" age 77, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at his home. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He also was a faithful and dedicated worker for Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home.
He was called to preach at 19 years of age. He pastored many churches including: Pine Grove in Greene County, Browns Chapel in Jefferson County, Rocky Summit in Grainger County, Fairview in Hawkins County; and held and helped in several revivals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Gennive Garrett; brother, Roe Garrett; brother-in-law, Jim Ledford; first wife, Lula Garrett; and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Garrett; children, Robert (Kim) Garrett, Sherry (Eldon) Coffey, Matthew Garrett, Deanna Delaney; Jason (April) Sturgill, and Amanda (Wes) Coleman; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ledford; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church from 5-7 P.M. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Devon Miracle, and Robert Garrett officiating. Special music by Rev. Tim Jones and Rev. Jerry Bradley. Graveside/interment services will be Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Carter’s Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenny Bowlin officiating.
