Nancy King O’Dell, age 83, of Morristown TN passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 8.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Samuel R. O’Dell, and her parents, Hoyt and Ruth King.
She is survived by her children, Samuel R. O’Dell, Jr. (Cyndi) and Amy Trocchi; three grandchildren, Tyler, Will, and Mia Trocchi; step-grandchildren Sarah, Jackson, and Cooper Bryant.
Nancy was a church director, organist, and pianist widely appreciated for her musical talent, compassion, and kindness. Her first role as pianist was, as a teenager, at Midway Presbyterian Church in Decatur, GA. Midway was always her spiritual home and Nancy kept a deep faith for all of her life. She was organist and handbell choir director for First United Methodist; organist and handbell choir director for Rogersville Presbyterian; accompanist for the Morristown College choir. She substituted as organist and pianist for many community churches, and played for countless funerals and weddings. Nancy was an enthusiastic member of WSCC’s Community Chorale for many years. She was a proud graduate of King University and was active in alumni events as long as she was able. She was a member of WSCC’s Foundation and deeply valued her and her husband’s connection to the college. Her first and best love was her husband Sam. She was the family’s mother and grandmother and cherished her children and grandchildren beyond compare, but was also “mom” to many and her love for children was always present.
The family will hold a memorial service at Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 12, at 2:00. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Shipley Cemetery in Bristol TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family would deeply appreciate donations to King University’s Music Department in her name at https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/N9Zc8A?vid=12ry0r; or to the Walters State Foundation, c/o Dr. Samuel R.
