Mary Elizabeth "Mimi" (Mitchell) Taylor

Mary “Mimi” Taylor went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 07, 2023.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles; her parents; 5 brothers.

Mary was married to Charles for 45 years. She was a loyal member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School for over 50 years. Mary worked for Magnavox for several years and then chose to babysit a multitude of children over a period of 38 years. Her love of children was reflected in her zeal for teaching. Whether it was reading, arithmetic, manners, sharing, kindness or the grace of God’s love, Mary did it with enthusiasm and love in her heart.

Mary leaves behind 2 daughters, Darlene (Rodney) Alexander and Penny (Jim) McNeal; and a son, Jason (April) Taylor; grandchildren, Eric (Jessie), Brandon (Sarah), Megan (Austin), Jessica (Kyle),  Brooke, Haley and Natalie; great-grandchildren, Addy, Riley, Leo; a sister, Patricia (Hugh); and brother, Charles; several nieces and nephews; her longtime friend, Joyce Viles; and her beloved cat, “mittens”.  

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice care givers, especially Ashlee, who provided for Mary’s final days. Special thanks to Dot and Deb and the Winstead family for their help in caring for Mary. Gratitude for her kind and thoughtful neighbors. Her oldest granddaughter, Jessica Taylor provided comfort, companionship, and an enormous amount of love in her final years. A very special thanks to Joyce Winstead, without her dedication, love and heart felt care Mary and our family would not have had the wonderful quality of life these last 2 years.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 5-7 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church.  Funeral services will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Dr. Larry Parrott and Jason Taylor officiating.  Graveside/interment service will be Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Hamblen Memory Gardens.
