Laurel Mitchell Obituary

Laurel (Laurie) Kay Mitchell went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2024, after a short and fierce battle with Cancer.

Laurie was born Jan 6, 1943, in upstate NY as the youngest of her 9 brothers and sisters.  This is where she met and married the love of her life Richard Mitchell.  They were married for 62 years.   Together they had 2 children, Rick and Cory.  After starting their family in upstate NY, they traveled and lived in Tennessee and Texas and ultimately retired back in TN.

Laurie was a fabulous cook and baker and enjoyed her time in the kitchen.  Additionally, she really enjoyed her gardens and birds.  Her beautiful yard was constantly full of many birds.  This by the way led to another of her favorite hobbies, shooting the squirrels and chipmunks who tried to eat the bird food.   When you entered her home, you could see the beauty of her work through all her gardens and would feel it through all the wonderful food and baked goods she would feed you and if you were a stranger and met her outside her home you could not help but notice her beauty and feel her love for you.

Laurie was a longtime member of Dandridge First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in her death by her parents Clifton and Laura Pettit and 8 of her siblings, Emmagene, Margaret, Mary, Leroy, Robert, Clifton, Howard, and Leslie and her granddaughter Jennifer Mitchell.  She is survived by her devoted husband Richard Mitchell, son Rick Mitchell (Carla), daughter Cory Greene (Scott), three grandsons, one great-granddaughter, two granddaughters-in-law and her sister Rohana.

Memorial donations can be made to Dandridge First United Methodist, 121 E. Meeting Street, Dandridge, TN, 37725. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
