Joseph Robert Neill passed peacefully on July 2nd, 2024 at The Heritage Center where he’d been in recovery after a hip injury. Joe was born on December 5th, 1939 in Morristown, to William Sunny and Emma Lillian Neill. He was a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee where he majored in Agricultural Engineering. On June 24, 1961, Joe married Glenna Ashley of Mohawk and they were inseparable until her passing in 2023. Shortly after Joe’s graduation from UT he accepted his commission in the U.S. Army, and they embarked on their military adventures out West. They especially enjoyed Ft. Sill, Ft. Lewis, and made lifelong friends during this time as newlyweds. Upon returning to Warrensburg, Joe began a 40+ year career in banking and insurance primarily with First National Bank, Greene County Bank, and Farm Bureau Insurance. Joe was a member of the Greenville Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years and longtime Rotarian. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Sunny and Emmy Neill, wife Glenna, daughter Ashley Neill Stamper, and infant daughter Sunny Lee Neill. He is survived by his son Sam Neill (Amy), brother Bill, son-in-law Todd Stamper, and brother-in-law J.D. Ashley (Shirley). His grandchildren are Riley Stamper (Analisa), Jones Stamper (Julia Stocklin), Charlie Neill, and Jake Neill. Lovingly known as JoeJoe, his grandchildren and the dogs they shared brought him the greatest joy. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff at Heritage Rehab Center, Dr Jaime Oakley, Erin Stayton, and the staff at Summit Family Medicine for JoeJoe’s care. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Joe’s life at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 22nd at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 601 West Main Street, Morristown followed by a graveside service at Mohawk Cemetery at 4 p.m. Receiving of friends prior to the service 1-2 p.m. at All Saints’.
