James M Winter

James M. Winter went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 18, 2023. He was born November 16, 1942.

James and his wife, owned and operated Sherry’s Market in Cosby for over 25 years.  He was best known as the “Cigar Man”.  He loved to laugh and pull pranks on everyone he could.  James was originally from Long Creek.

He was preceded in death b his parents, Cauley and Flora Winter; brothers, John Winter, Mack Winter, and Roger Winter; sister, Anna Jo Smelser,

He is survived by his wife, Shirron “Sherry” Winter; daughter, Leann (Tony) Gooderham; granddaughter, Courtany Gooderham; great-nephew, Skylan Corum; grandson; Brandon Massey; great-grandsons, Ethan Massey and Bryson McKay; great-granddaughter, Amber Gooderham; sister, Ora Lee Conard; loving niece, Rhonda (Freddy) Naillon; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends; special friend, Steve York; special caregiver/friend, Tony Corum.

The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice (Charlie and Tuan) for all the care and concern they showed the family.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Cosby Missionary Baptist Church, 131 Fancher Rd, Newport, TN from 6 – 7 P.M.  A memorial service will follow at 7:00 P.M.
