James Larry Mangum, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Larry was born in Smithville, Tennessee, January 24, 1932 to the late James Henry and Willie Hall Mangum. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
Larry was deeply loved by his family and was a hero to them. He was a hard worker, working up to his last days on his bulldozers and anything he could find to tinker on. He was the backbone of his family and will continue to impact them each day with his wisdom and knowledge. He loved telling everyone he met about Jesus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Mangum; sister, Mary Reid; and grandson, James Charles (Charlie) Mangum.
Larry leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Rose Marie Jablonski Mangum of Morristown, TN; son, Dr. Larry M. Mangum of Morristown, TN; daughters, Karen Rochelle of Gray, TN, Kathy (Mike) Angle of Bluefield, VA, Becky (Bryan) Mason of Piney Flats, TN; brother, Gayle (Susan) Mangum of Chattanooga, TN; ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 5 – 7 P.M. in the chapel of Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home in Morristown, TN. Funeral services will follow with Rev. Jim Mathis and Rev. Don Beach will officiate. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Dekalb Memorial Gardens at 12 noon central time in Smithville, TN with Rev. Mitch Evans officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael Lyons, Dustin Mason, Matthew Rochelle, Samuel Mangum and John Mark Mangum.
The family would like to give a special thank you to hospice nurse Raven and the staff at Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service.
