G. Keith Purkey

G. Keith Purkey, 89, of Morristown, TN passed away Monday, May 13, 2024. 

Family and loved ones remember him as an intelligent, generous Christian known for his quick humor and for cheerfully giving from his heart without judgment.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, William Bryan, and Maude Layel Purkey; brothers, Bryan F., and Joseph L. Purkey; sisters, Christine Cantwell, and Arlene Watkins; daughter, Nancy Kennedy (Jim).

He is survived by his wife, Treva Hurst Purkey; sister, Alma Pierce Gann; daughters, Anne Sims (Greg), Mary Margaret Wright (Michael), Elizabeth Duby Robertson (David), Rebecca Duby Boyd; grandchildren, William Burnett (Ginny), Callie Robertson, Carter Kennedy, Samuel Boyd, and Cooper Boyd; two great-granddaughters, Charlie, and Chloe Burnett; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and four “no-longer stray” cats.

Keith made a lifelong impact on the Morristown area.  He was born in the Alpha community, graduated from Morristown High School, and served as a Certified Public Accountant for over 60 years.  Except for his time spent earning a degree from the University of Tennessee and serving in the Air Force Defense Command, 10th division (AFDS), Keith resided in the Lakeway area all his life.

As a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Morristown, his legacy will live on in the Wallen-Purkey Sunday School Class.  Members will serve as honorary pall bearers.  Keith enjoyed long walks and exploring new paths, as he collected arrowheads, shark teeth, and minted coins.  As an avid walking golfer, Keith earned his 11th hole-in-one at the age of 85.

Friends may pay their respects Friday, May 17, 2024 from 2-4 pm in the chapel of Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Morristown with Dr. Dean Haun  officiating.
