Dr. Joseph L. Hadden, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Morristown, Tennessee. Dr. Hadden was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on September 11, 1937 and died of natural causes on October 3, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father Shelby N. Hadden and mother Georgia Morris Hadden. Dr. Hadden is survived by his Gallatin High School sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Mary Atchley Hadden, sons Joseph R. Hadden, DDS and John S. Hadden (Linda B. Hadden), daughter Becky Hadden Wise (Dr. Stephen M. Wise), grandsons J. Bennett Hadden (Lexie E. Hadden), Chas. G. Hadden, J. Banks Wise, granddaughter Rebecca R. Wise, great grandsons Cooper B. Hadden and Hayes E. Hadden, as well as siblings S. Morris Hadden, Esq. (Anne), Dr. Hal W. Hadden (Linda), and Annette Hadden Valentine (Walt) with their beloved families.
Dr. Hadden graduated from the University of Tennessee-Memphis College of Dentistry in 1963 and was immediately stationed on Midway Island as Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, returning to the Memphis Naval Air Station in 1965. In 1967, Dr. Hadden purchased the dental practice of Dr. Will Baker and laid deep roots in Morristown, walking to and from 900 West First North Street over four decades. Patients were truly a second family for “Painless Joe.” Dr. Hadden treasured his faith, family, and friends as an invaluable benefactor of innumerable ministries, ministers, aspiring youth, and the Morristown community.
Dr. Hadden enjoyed yardwork, antiques, travel, biographies, genealogy, and American history.
A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church 600 West Main St, Morristown at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 8th, 2021. Friends will be received prior to this service at the church beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Dover Presbyterian Church at 1550 Dover Road, Morristown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young Life Sumter, SC (J. Banks Wise) or Lakeway Young Life.
