Caryn Jordan Obituary

Caryn Jordan, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and teacher, passed away on January 21, 2024, in Morristown, TN, at the age of 71. She was born on May 7, 1952, in Rockford, Illinois, to Fay Carlson and Carol Brinkman Carlson, who preceded her in death.

Caryn led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and dedication. She retired from teaching after making a significant impact on the lives of her students and aspiring educators. Caryn's passion for teaching special education, math, and science was evident in the way she inspired and connected with her students. Her sense of humor and storytelling abilities brought joy to many.  She had a genuine appreciation for the ridiculous, almost always finding humor in any given situation. Caryn's quirky and comedic personality made her a genuine character, and her love for all children, as well as her extensive family, was immeasurable.

Aside from her teaching career, Caryn was a survivor, having battled cancer with immense strength and resilience. She was always an advocate for the underdog, particularly children with special needs, and her dedication to their well-being touched the hearts of both students and parents alike. Caryn managed to raised three boys as a single mother, sometimes working up to three jobs to support them while also pursuing her college degree. Her determination and perseverance were evident in the commitments she made to her family and education.

In Okinawa, Japan, Caryn met her loving husband, Orlando (Lanny) Jordan, where they shared many wonderful memories living and traveling the world together. Caryn is survived by her dedicated spouse, Lanny, and her three children: Jeremiah Garrison (spouse: Amanda), Jacob Garrison (spouse: Sarah), and Joshua Garrison (spouse: Lachanda). She was also blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Morgan, Caleb (spouse: Jess; and great-granddaughter Kinsley), Gabe, Ben, Violet, Jashaun (spouse: Abri; great-grandson: Jonathan), and Jasmine. Caryn was a loving sister to Christine Carlson (nephew: Tony; nieces: Celeste, and Nickey), Cheryl Carlson (nephew: Jonathan; nieces: Heidi, and Jenny), Pamela Rotenberry (spouse: Tom), Sandy Mullins (spouse: Bill; niece: Haley; nephew: Devin), and Kurt Carlson (nieces: Ashley and Kaylee).

Caryn's educational journey led her to graduate from East Tennessee State University. She began her teaching career in Gray Station, Tennessee, as a special education teacher before joining the Department of Defense Dependent Education Activities (DoDEA). Caryn taught in Misawa, Japan, Okinawa Japan, and later in Kaiserslautern (Sembach), Germany, where she concluded her teaching career.

Outside of her professional life, Caryn found joy in nature, music, travel, reading, and playing games. She was an active member of a book club and a wine club, where she shared her love for literature and good company. Caryn's fashion sense was a testament to her love for style. Her thin, statuesque figure always showcased her impeccable taste in clothing.
