Betty Bradley Obituary

Betty J. Bradley, age 99, of Kodak, passed away Friday, January 15, 2024 at her home.

She was born September 14, 1924 in Fairbury, IL to John Edward (railroad man) and Olive Edith Fitzgerald Grove.  As a child, Betty sang in the church choir.  She was a tom boy and loved volleyball and baseball.  Betty also loved to sing with her brother, Jim and sisters, Mattie, and Mona.  Early life she worked many jobs including, house cleaning, bakery worker, and waitress.  During WWII she took a 6-month nursing course.  After that began working at General Motors while living in La Grange, IL.  In 1955 she married Leslie Sherman.  Together they had 2 sons, Bob, in 1957 and Mike in 1960.  In 1966, after the passing of her husband, Leslie, Betty moved her 2 sons to San Diego, CA where she worked at CID Propane and Alpine Convalescent center until she retired.  In 1986 she moved back to IL where she married Bob Bradley (who introduced her to her 1st husband, Leslie).  Bob passed away in 1988, at which time she moved back to San Diego.  Around 2000 Betty moved back to IL.  At this point she lived with her brother, Jim until 2008.  Betty spent the rest of her life living with her son, Mike and his wife, Linda in Kodak, TN.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Leslie Sherman, and Robert Bradley; son, Robert Sherman; siblings, Hugh Grove, Rachel Grove, James Grove, Mona Grove, and Mattie Grove.

She is survived by her son, Mike Sherman; step-son, Brad Bradley; grandchildren, Leslie Ardolino, Patrick Bradley, Michelle Hakala; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Ardolino, Calianne Ardolino, Payton Hakala, Bradley Hakala, Jackson Bradley; and “adopted” grandmother to many many more.

There will be no funeral service.

 Anyone who knew Betty knows what a bright light she was!  She never met a stranger and loved laughing! 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you spread some of that light and laughter around to people you encounter on your journey.
