James “Jim” Burchell, Jr., age 75, of Morristown passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his home. He was a member of Freedom Chapel Baptist Church. He loved sports. He coached and officiated in all youth sports in Hamblen County. He was inducted into the Morristown Recreational Hall of Fame after 35 years of service. He sold athletic equipment for 15 years; worked at Moore’s Chip Company 17 years; and then went to work for Hamblen County School System of which he retired.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ina Lee Burchell; step-daughter, Birgetta Trent Gordon and elected grandson, Micheal Lawson.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Burchell; daughter, Deanine (Rick) Diamond; son, Dana (Melissa) Burchell; step-daughter, Stephanie (Jamie) Jones, step-son, Shron Trent; grandchildren, Brittany Morgan, Nicholas Diamond, Noah Burchell, Tyler, Alyssa and Allison Gordon, Luke and Levi Jones, elected granddaughter, Kristy (Keith) Gilliam; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Ethan Gilliam (who brought many years of joy and happiness and he loved them more than life itself), and Azlynne Morgan; brother, Dale (Justine) Burchell; sister, Diane Hill.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 8, 2019 from 5 – 7 P.M. in the chapel of Stetzer-Bales Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 P.M. with his cousin, Rev. Herbie Burchell officiating. Singing will be provided by his great-niece, Ashley Delph. Family and friends will meet at Hamblen Memory Gardens for graveside/interment services Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 2:00 P.M.
