Benjamin Eugene "Benny" Smith

August 31, 1932 ~ November 2, 2019 (age 87)


Benjamin Eugene “Benny” Smith, age 87, of Morristown passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his home with his family and friends by his side.  He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church of Morristown.  He was in the US Air Force during the Korean War.  He was the founder of Area Pawn Shop that later became known as the Trade Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents, O.T. and Audrey Walker Smith; son, Gregory Smith; brother, Ronald Smith; sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Williams Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Ruth Smith; son, Tommy (Joyce) Smith; daughter, Loretta (Monty) Bryant; grandchildren, Hannah (Chance) Romines, Eli Smith and Mattie Bryant; great-grandchildren, Connor Romines and baby girl Romines; nephew, Kevin (Carolyn) Smith; great-nephew, Shane Smith; along with several friends.

A military graveside service will be Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Hamblen Memory Gardens at 1:00 P.M.  along with Rev. James Goins.   A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to First Baptist Church Food Pantry, Dailey Bread or the Hamblen County Animal Shelter.
