Obituary

Barbara Ferguson Shockley, 87, of Morristown, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday morning, December 7, 2019.  She was born during the depression at her parents’ home in a rural community of Hancock County on July 19, 1932.  She was saved at an early age at Chinquapin Baptist Church.  She married Roy H. Shockley on her 18th birthday in 1950 and has resided in Morristown since the spring of 1954.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Roy H. Shockley; son, Darwin Shockley; parents, L. T. and Bonnie Ferguson; sister, Cleta and Lloyd Byrd and their daughter, Rhonda Brookshire; brother L.T. Ferguson, Jr and wife Gladys; brother and sisters-in-law, Billy Davis, Leo Epperson, Garrett Dalton, Austin and Hazel Shockley, Ada and Don Roberts, Estel Shockley, Vada and Bob Leonard, Bill and Elsie Shockley, Edith and Frank Dalton, Carra and Charlie Johnson; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her son, Steve H. Shockley and companion, Debbie Byington, upon which Barbara referred to her as the daughter she never had; sister, Sharon Davis and her family consisting of  Robin and Mike Hodge, daughters, Rachael and John Overbay and son, Wade, Emily and Eric Hazelwood, Janet and Scott Killion and sons, Ryan and Adam; sister-in-law’s, Dorothy Epperson and daughter Pam of Franklin, OH, Betty Dalton and daughter, Sherrie of Middletown, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Roger Byrd, Kathy (Gary) Mashburn, Debbie (Mark) DeMombreun and many more (too many to list); first cousins, Peggy (Ambrose) Brewer, Aletha (Roger) Trent, and Janice (Tom) Beck; two lifelong friends since childhood, Jerreta Harrell and her beloved first cousin, Dorothy Dalton, both of Knoxville; a trusted friend and neighbor, Doris Hayworth that she loved dearly; and lastly her little dog “Rusty” who was her home security system.

Per Barbara’s whishes there will only be a graveside service at the mausoleum at Hamblen Memory Gardens on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. with lifelong family friend, Jeff Harvel officiating.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kingswood Home for Children in Bean Station.
